What is R.C.I.A.?
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is a process designed for those who are interested in searching out the Catholic faith. This process is marked by four stages:
Sessions run from September to the Feast of Pentecost. The R.C.I.A. community includes the candidates and their significant others, sponsors, catechists, a liturgy coordinator, ministers of hospitality, and a director. In addition to the weekly 1-1/2 hour sessions, there are rites that mark passage from stage to stage. These are celebrated within the parish community at weekend Eucharistic Liturgies. These rites include the Rite of Welcoming/Acceptance, the Rite of Election/Continuing Conversion, the Rites of Scrutiny, and the Rites of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist). Who may become a part of R.C.I.A.? The R.C.I.A. is open to a) persons that are unbaptized; b) those who have been baptized but have had no further formation in the Catholic Church; and c) those who have been baptized in a faith tradition other than Catholic. When does R.C.I.A. meet? The R.C.I.A. community meets on Thursday evenings.
