Middle School Mission Trip 2010 !

You can be the hands for God's work on earth!

St. Joseph Parish is teaming with Youth Works on a Mission Trip for Middle School Age members (currently in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade).

 When?
Sunday morning, July 25 –
Friday evening, July 30, 2010

 Where?
This year, we will head to beautiful Duluth, Minnesota.  Once home to more millionaires (per capita) than any other city in the world, Duluth’s population today includes 15.5 percent who live in poverty—nearly double the rate for the state of Minnesota. Come partner with the community to help this city reach its potential for a high quality of life with your encouragement and service.

What’s a Mission Trip?

A Mission Trip (or "Service Trip") is a time spent helping people in need - being the real hands of Jesus Christ.  "Mission" means "to send," so we are sent to help other communities through our work and who we are.  It's about attitude - challenging yourself and stretching out of the usual routine to give to others. It's about being flexible and living with other people in a committed, Christian group.  It's about time with God.  During each day there is worship, witness, work, fun and friends.  It is amazing and unforgettable.

What do we do?
Our goal is to partner with local ministries and programs such as nursing homes for the elderly, soup kitchens, and children centers that seek to address the very basic needs of Duluth's residents. We desire to serve unselfishly, by doing whatever will truly help the community.  The adult leaders will separate youth into work ministry groups.  Groups will be mixed with youth from other groups who are also in Duluth to help for the week.  This will give you an opportunity to join other churches on your mission adventure, sharing your experience and making new friends.   There are no promises as to what ministry a given group will work on, so come ready to have a flexible spirit.

Why are you telling us now?
Because a year goes by fast!  Registrations are taken on a “first-come-first-registered” basis. The deadline is December 1st. We start a waiting list once the slots fill. It takes all year to get ready for the mission trip .

What’s the cost?
Before fundraising, the real cost is estimated to be $500. That will cover the cost of lodging, food, transportation, materials, adult leaders, and a fun activity. We expect that amount will be significantly reduced through fundraising.  Last year, with fundraising, the cost went down in a range between $50 and $280. Everyone is expected to participant in general fundraising; individuals may choose to do additional fundraising.

As with all programs at St. Joseph, no one is turned away because of finances.

Safety?
Our transportation is 7-passenger vans.  All chaperones and leaders are carefully chosen and screened.  Youth Works housing facilities are secure and all ministry opportunities are designed with the safety of the students in mind.  In addition, all Youth Works leaders are CPR certified and first-aid trained.

Deadline?
