Confirmation Checklist and Candidate Responses

Checklist of Items Due before Confirmation

____    Basic Beliefs Journal Answers (purple covered booklet) due Wednesday, March 12.
____    Sponsor Candidate Booklet due Wednesday, March 26.
____    Letter from Sponsor addressed to St. Joseph’s stating your readiness for Confirmation due Wednesday, March 26.
____    Letter to Archbishop Flynn due Wednesday, March 26 (see mailing for instructions)
____    Letter to St. Joseph’s (same as above).
____    Take Sermon Notes for 3 different Masses (Blank copies of Notes are at the Information Desk in the Gathering Space – turn in at the basket on the Information Desk).

Candidate Responses

Renewal of Baptismal Promises

The bishop questions the candidates:

Bishop:      Do you reject Satan and all his works and all his empty promises?

                  All candidates together:  I do.

Bishop:      Do you believe in God the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth:

                  Candidates:  I do.

Bishop:      Do you believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was born of the Virgin Mary, was crucified, died, and was buried, rose from the dead, and is now seated at the right hand of the Father?

                  Candidates:  I do.

 Bishop:      Do you believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who came upon the apostles at Pentecost and today is given to you sacramentally in confirmation?

                  Candidates:  I do.

 Bishop:      Do you believe in the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting?

       Candidates:  I do.

 Bishop:      This is our faith. This is the faith of the Church. We are proud to profess it through Christ our Lord.

                  The entire congregation:  Amen.

 The Anointing with Chrism

 Bishop:      _________________, be sealed with the Gift of the Holy Spirit.

                  Candidate:   Amen.

 Bishop:      Peace be with you.

                  Candidate:  And also with you.
