What is Confirmation Preparation?

The process of preparation begins in the ninth grade, with students celebrating the Sacrament of Confirmation in the spring of their tenth grade year.  The process emphasizes three main areas critical to becoming active Catholics:

  • Discussion of life as we live it in relationship to God and community.
  • The need to be responsible stewards of the gifts we have been given, with emphasis on looking at how we can give back to God and to our community.
  • The recognition of our past traditions as they lend themselves to our current faith development.
The format for this two-year process is that of two sessions, ranging anywhere from 7 to 10 weeks.  Each session will contain group meetings, as well as some large group activities.  The Lectionary (the book of the Sunday Scripture readings), speakers, outreach projects and other resources will serve as the main sources of group discussion and activities.

Frequently Asked Questions for Confirmation……..

1.    How many people can we bring?  A: As many as you like! However, each candidate is allowed one half of a pew which usually fits five or six people. More guests are welcome; they may sit in the sections not assigned to parishes.

2.    What should candidates wear?  A. A suit and tie or at least a shirt and tie and nice pants are appropriate for the guys. Pantsuits or dresses for the girls but please keep in mind the length and definitely no bare shoulders. No tennis shoes or blue jeans!

3.    When should we be there?  A. Please be there by 6:15 to get your seats and pick up your envelopes from Denise or helpers. Your envelope will contain your nametag, your certificate and information about Peer Ministry. There is no assigned seating – just an assigned section for our parish.

4.    Where do we sit? A: We have reserved seating for Saint Josephs of Lino Lakes.

5.    Can we take pictures?  A: Photography or videotaping is not allowed during the ceremony but there are picture opportunities after the ceremony.

6.    How long does the ceremony last?  A: It is a full Mass and with so many people there, you should count on about 2 to 2-1/2 hours.
